Pre-Event Sports Massage –
A pre-event massage is performed the day of the event, usually between 30 minutes to 2 hours before the start of the event.
It is important to give the athlete at least 30 minutes from the end of the massage to the start of their event.
This technique helps to stimulate the muscles being used and to energize the athlete.
Post-Event Sports Massage –
The purpose of the post-event sports massage is to help the athlete to recover from their high-intensity exercise.
They have just finished an event, or a hard training session. At this time, the goal is to improve circulation, reduce muscle tension and calm the athlete.
This is not to replace a physical cool down and can be performed directly after the event (as long as no injury was sustained), or up to a day after.
